Yes we know that we’re early, but we’re racing towards the end of the year with 2019 on the horizon. A new year brings a new start, and all the fresh promises and resolutions, which are part and parcel of it. Like many business owners you might be thinking of New Year resolutions for your business, new initiatives, new ways of working, or simply ways to take your business to the next level. We’re always happy to help so here are our 5 top marketing resolutions.
As you might be able to tell from the timing of this blog, at Rain Marketing we’re big on preparation! Yes there will always be things that crop up but planning ahead can help you work smarter and more strategically. Look ahead at your business and identify what milestone you have in the next 12months, along with if you have quieter periods and work backwards from that point. This will enable you to build momentum in your marketing, along with making strategic decisions rather than reactive ones.
Your new favourite word this year should be “Why”, and why is that I hear you ask! So many of us fall into the trap of doing what we’ve always done. But when was the last time you evaluated the effectiveness of the leaflet drop you’ve done for the past 3 years. Asking yourself why will help push you to really analyse the ROI of your current marketing and squeeze the value out of every last penny. This may in turn lead you to our next tip….
Try something new
So you’ve studied your current marketing activity and decided you need a change. 2019 is the year to try something new. This might be something small like changing up your design work, or it might be something big like starting a blog. It might not work, but at least you’ve tried it and can learn for next time. But what if it does work? Isn’t it worth trying, just to find out?
Refresh your content
New content is the holy grail of marketing. It signals to search engines that your website is active, and helps to boost your SEO ranking. Make resolution number 4 to review all of your written content, both on and offline. Looking at it with fresh eyes we’re sure that you’ll find changes and tweaks. Your business isn’t a static entity and if you last updated your website 8 months ago then there will be a whole host of changes in that time which your content should reflect. If you feel you’re too close to your content then get a trusted friend, business associate, mentor etc. to have a look and give you honest feedback.
Plan your posts
We all know that we should have social media accounts brimming with posts. In reality, that’s time consuming, particularly if you’re doing it on an ad hoc basis. We’d like to welcome you to the wonderful world of social media calendars! 2019 is the perfect time for you to start planning your posts. By setting aside just a handful of hours and looking at the month ahead you can identify any national days, holidays, events and promotions for you to tie your posts to. If you still aren’t sure where to start then have a look at our downloadable Jan 2019 Content Calendar. We’ll be releasing one per month to help you schedule your posts.
